Storywriter, translator. (b. 24 September 1926, Adana - d. 19 September 2019, Istanbul). He completed primary and secondary school in Adana. He graduated from Istanbul Pertevniyal High School (1946), Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of German Language and Literature (1955). After working as an assistant in the same department, he went to Germany. Upon his return, he started to work as German lecturer at IU Foreign Languages Higher School (1960) and continued this until his retirement.

His artistic life started with a poem published in Varlık magazine (1949).  His first story was also published in Varlık magazine (June, 1951).  His stories, reviews and translations were published in journals such as Varlık, Yelken, Türk Dili, Ataç, Dönem, Yeni Dergi. He received an award at a story contest of Türk Dili magazine in 1953.  He shared 1965 Sait Faik Story Award with his work Elbiseciler Çarşısı (1964) which he shared with M. Özay. He received the 1988 Story Award of Turkey Writers' Union with his story Köpek İstasyonu (1988).  He is also known with translations from German literature and Franz Kafka.

In the beginning phase, his stories were in order, traditional and bound with conditions of event, time and place. He tried to process themes such as loneliness, uneasiness, unhappiness, desperation, separation and regrets within the traditional story order with a Kafkaesque expression. He has usually focused on middle income level people, who have no reactions against the pressure of environment, their ignorance and deprivation from power to fight and act. These stories have the lowest proportion of imagination and he used two different languages; one Pure Turkish and the other one as a more moderate way of Turkish. He moved away from classical story telling in his book Buhûrumeryem. The individuals in Şipal are usually alone and they are in a spiritual depression with the effect of this loneliness, also with the impact of sexual problems. He has successfully worked on this depression in his stories within different cases.
