Ece Temelkuran

Poet, writer-journalist. She was born in Izmir on 22^nd July 1973. She graduated from Bornova Anadolu High School (1991) and then from Ankara University, Faculty of Law (1995). She started journalism studies during her student days (1993). She worked on women’s movement, political detainees, Southeast Issue in Turkey and she made interviews about them. She had conducted a research on Women Movement in Germany. Afterwards, she received attorney's license, however she pursued her career in journalism.

Her articles have been published in newspapers and magazines like Cumhuriyet, Milliyet, Habertürk, Artı Haber, Aktüel, Yeni Yüzyıl, Patika, Birikim, NTV Mag and also in various magazines aboard. She also worked at CNN Turk as freelance reporter

She went to Brazil in 2003 and to India in 2004 to observe World Social Forum. She examined socialist revolution in Venezuela and the nation movement after the economic crisis in Argentina. Her articles about that movement was published in Milliyet under the title of Buenos Aires’te Son Tango.

Temelkuran, who was chosen as the “Journalist of the year” by the German government in 1996 drew attention with her style questioning the modern era, the city life and social life, enlightenment and being scientific in her works. She has won numerous awards like Review Article of the Year, White Commentary Award, the Pen for Peace Award, the Idea and Democracy Award, Peace Friendship Democracy Award, Freedom for Idea by Ayşenur Zorakolu. Her books called Ağrı’nın Derinliği (Deep Mountain, Across the Turkish-Armenian Divide) and Kıyı Kitabı (Book of the Edge) were translated into English.
