Politician, deputy. He was
born on June 1, 1964 in Gole, Ardahan. He completed his primary and secondary
education in Ardahan. He graduated from Kars Alpaslan High School in 1981. He participated in the activities of youth of
Republican People's Party when he was at high school. Although he had a chance
to attend Ataturk University, Faculty of Literature; he could not continue with
his higher education due to some reasons. He moved to Istanbul with his family
because of socio-economic reasons. He started to work as a waiter in Kadıkoy in
1981. His political life was interrupted in September 12. He has re-entered
politics in 1984 within the Social Democracy Party. He completed his military
service between 1986 and 1987. He continued with his political life in Social
Democrat Populist Party, which was the continuation of SODEP. He was involved
in commerce.
He was elected as Kadıkoy
Municipality Council Member from SHP in 1989 local elections. Gürsel Tekin was
re-elected in 1994 local elections; and when SHP and RPP were integrated in
1995, he continued his duty within the RPP. He was re-elected into the
municipality council membership in 1999 and 2004 local elections; and continued
as the Deputy Kadıkoy Mayor in 1997. He has also become Istanbul Metropolitan
Municipality Council Member in 2004 local elections. He was the RPP Istanbul
vice provincial president between the years 2002 and 2005. He was appointed as
RPP Istanbul province Chairman on August 14, 2007 replacing the resigned Şinasi
Öktem, and with the decision of Central executive Committee of the party. He worked
together with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu during his campaign for Istanbul Metropolitan
Municipality Mayorship in 2009 local elections. He was re-elected as Istanbul Metropolitan
Municipality Committee member from Kadıkoy in 2009 local elections. He was
elected as Central executive Board member of RPP on August 4, 2010 with 48
votes.
Gürsel Tekin is 24th
term Istanbul deputy. He was the Vice Chairman responsible from Communication,
Promotion and Media; and he became the RPP General Secretary on May 8, 2014. He
is married and father of three sons.
