Journalist-writer,
painter. He was born on July 5, 1938 in Acipayam / Denizli. He sometimes used
the signatures Nedim Gürbüz, Oğuz Akalan and Aliş in his articles. He graduated
from Cumhuriyet Primary School and Denizli High School. He did not complete his
training at State Fine Arts Academy. He began with his journalism career as a
painter and graphic artist in Hür Vatan
newspaper (1961). Then he worked in the newspapers of Yeni Istanbul (1962-1965) and Babıalide
Sabah (1965-1969). He has established his workshop and worked as a
freelance painter (1969-1974 and 1980-1984). He worked as the editor-in chief
for Yeni Asya newspaper (1974-1977)
and for Tercüman newspaper
(1977-1980). He was a columnist in Türkiye
newspaper between the years 1984 and 2001. He is a member of Journalists’
Association of Turkey, Hearth of Intellectuals and Press Council.
His articles, drawings
and poems were published in the journals Nasır (1957-59), Şiir (1961),
Saygı Edebiyat (1966), Türk Edebiyatı (1966-67), Boğaziçi-Köprü (1982-84)
and Doğuş (1985-88, with the pseudonym Oğuz Akalan). He was selected as
the Painter of the Year in 1984 by İnanç journal and as the Journalist of the
Year in 1994 by Journalists’ Association of Turkey. In 1998, he was awarded
with 1998 Konya Kombassan Foundation’s Mevlana Grand Prize. He also has four
media awards. His comic series named Deli
Balta were filmed and published in TGRT for nine episodes (1990-1991). His
imprisonment was requested in 1968 for five years because of the cover he had
drawn in Büyük Doğu journal. He was
not acquitted, but when the Law of Precautions was abolished, the case was
withdrawn. He was sued in September 2000 with the claim that he insulted the
government in one of his articles.
