Poet and writer (b. 1890, İstanbul - d.
22 August 1972). He used the pen name Fiske. He graduated from Mercan High
School (1909) and İstanbul, Faculty of Law (1914). He worked as the clerk in
the Office of Parliament for a short time, he became a journalist and published
the humor and literature reviews like Akbaba
(1919), Papağan (1924), Resimli Dünya (1924), Güneş (1926), Edebiyat Gazetesi (1932), Ayda
Bir (1935), Çınaraltı (1942).
While he was a literature teacher in İstanbul High School for Boys (1941-44),
he was expelled and then he engaged with politics. He became deputy of
Zonguldak (1946-50) from the Republican Peoples Party and of İstanbul (1965-69)
from the Justice Party which he joined after 27 May Coup. He wrote anecdotes in
the newspapers Milliyet, Tasvir-i Efkâr,
Cumhuriyet, Ulus, Zafer, Havadis and Son
Havadis. His grave is in the
Zincirlikuyu Graveyard.
As being one
of the poets of “Five Poets of Syllable”, Orhon Seyfi wrote his first poems in
metrics. He published his poems written in syllabic meter in the reviews Yeni
Mecmua (1917-18), Şair (1918-19), Büyük Mecmua (1919), Yarın
(1921-22). He was known as a master poet in our literature with his poems
written in a plain Turkish and fragile and romantic feelings.
