Journalist and writer (b. 14 December
1946, Tarsum, Mersin). His full name is Danyal Oral Çalışlar. He graduated from
Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences (1971). He worked as a general
secretary at Ankara University (1978) and editor-in-chief of the review Aydınlık (1990- 92). He lived in Germany
as a researcher of Islam on the invitation of the Hamburg Senate (1992- 1996).
He has worked for the newspaper Cumhuriyet
since 1992. He is known for his articles and interviews published in this
newspaper.
He was sentenced to 13 months in prison
for his interviews with Abdullah Öcalan and Kemal Burkay. He became known for
his research on the political events and personalities of recent history. He is
a member of Writers Syndicate of Turkey, the Mülkiye Alumni and the Journalist
Association.
