Writer (b. 1908, Nicosia / Cyprus – d. 1988, London / The United Kingdom). He attended İstanbul High School for Boys and graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Sociology. After becoming an assistant in his department, he went to the United States (1934). He did research on sociology at Chicago University and on his return to Turkey he was assigned as an assistant at Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography (1939). He became an associate professor in 1941. When his chair at university was removed and his employment was terminated, he left for Canada (1945) and worked as a scholar at Mc. Gill University and became a professor (1952). After retiring, he settled in London. He did research on the history of the Ottoman economy and structure of Ottoman society. He attracted attention by his critical comments on secularism and reactionaries.

From 1941, his articles were published in reviews such as Yurt ve Dünya, Antalya (1945), Yön (1961), Sesimiz (1979) and in the newspaper Cumhuriyet (1960-80). In his later years he lived in the coastal town of Folkston, close to London.
