Storywriter
(b 25 March 1945, Adapazarı). He attended Sabiha Hanım Primary School (1956)
and Adapazarı High School (1963) and graduated from Ankara University, Faculty
of Language, History and Geography, Department of Turkish Language and Literature
(1968). He worked as a teacher at high schools in Adapazarı (1968-73 and
1979-80) and as a manager of a bookstore and private tutor in the same city,
during and after leaving teaching.
His
first story Mustafa'nın Karesi (The Square of Mustafa) was published in
the review Yansıma (July, 1972). Later on, his stories, critiques and
essays were published in reviews, newspapers and encyclopedias such as Yansıma
(1972-75), Sanat ve Toplum (1978), Sosyalist Kültür Ansiklopedisi (1980),
Adapazarı (local newspaper, 1982), Yazko Somut (1983-84), Yaba
- Öykü (1984) and Karşı Edebiyat (1987-91). He wrote articles on the
theory of story writing for young storywriters in his column Öykü Noktası
(The Point of the Story) in the review E. He received an honorable
mention in the critics category at the Abdi İpekçi Arts Contest in 1986-87 with
his article Sevgilim İstanbul (İstanbul, My Darling) on the stories by
Nedim Gürsel. He came first at the Turkish Aeronautical Association Story Competition
in 1990 with his story Bir Yaprağın Düşüşüyle (Fall of a Leaf). He is a
member of the Writers Syndicate of Turkey, the PEN Association of Writers and
the Turkish Authors Association.
