Poet and writer (b. 7 November
1936, İzmir). She is the daughter of Mehmet Güntürkün, the journalist,
educationalist and writer. She attended İzmir Kahramanlar Primary School, İzmir
High School for Girls and graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of
Literature and İstanbul Advanced Teacher Training School, Department of Turkish
Language and Literature (1958). She worked as a literature teacher at İzmir
Private Çamlaraltı High School and İzmir High School for Girls. For two terms
she was also the General Secretary of the İzmir Women’s Association and the
İzmir Artists Association of which she was one of the founders. In 1990, she
retired from teaching.
Her first poem “Gelir Geçer”
(It’s Not So Important) appeared in the magazine Türk Dili in 1959. Her first articles were published in İzmir’s
local newspapers and her following works were published in magazines such as Türk Dili, Hisar, Varlık, Türk Yurdu
(1959), Çatı. Three of her poems were
translated into German and one poem of hers was translated into Italian. Apart
from her poems, she is also known for her objectivity and attention to detail
in her research and investigations.
