Journalist
and writer (b. 23 June 1908, Fethiye / Muğla - d. 20 August 1991, İstanbul). He
was the son of Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu. He attended Galatasaray High School
(1929); he studied social sciences at Vienna and Lausanne Universities (1935).
When he returned to Turkey, he worked as a sociology teacher at Galatasaray
High School (1938-41), as a Muğla parliamentary deputy (1950-54) and as a senator nominated
by the President of Republic (1964-68). After the death of
his father, he was the owner and head writer of Cumhuriyet newspaper.
His articles were published
in this newspaper from 1936. With his book Ben
Atatürkçü Değilim (I am not a Kemalist, 1982), he shared the Burhan Felek
Services to the Press Award with Hikmet Feridun Es. In the same year, he
received the Special Honorary Award given by the Progressive Journalists
Association.
