Art historian (b. 20 July 1923, Berlin / Germany).  She graduated from Ankara High School for Girls (1951) and Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of German Philology and History of Art (1955). She began to work on the teaching staff at the same university in 1957.  She received her doctorate in 1961, became an associate professor in 1967 and professor in 1972.  She worked as an instructor in the faculty she graduated from then at Ege University, Faculty of Social Sciences. She continued as President of the Department of History of Art at Ege University between the years 1981 and 1982.  She became dean of this faculty which was renamed the Faculty of Literature in 1982 and became assistant rector at Ege University in 1992.  She retired with the Award and Medal of Superior Service given by the Ege University Senate in 2000.

She has published her articles on Turkish and Islamic Art in various journals such as Belleten, Anadolu, Vakıflar Dergisi, Yıllık Araştırmalar Dergisi, Selçuklu Araştırmaları Dergisi, Sanat Dünyamız, Kültür ve Sanat, Sanatsal Mozaik Dergisi in Turkey and in various foreign publications such as Türkische Kunst, Archäologischer Anzeiger, Anatolica, The Memorial Volume of the Vth International Congress Iranian Art and Archeology Tahran-Asfahan-Shiraz, Deutsch-Türkische Gesellschaft E.V. Bonn Mittellungen, The World of Tiles, Der Islam, Islamic Culture Forum, Österreichische Diplomatische Korrespondez and also in the  publications İstanbul Üniversitesi Sanat Tarihi Yıllığı, Türk Kültürünü Araştırma Enstitüsü Kıbrıs Özel Sayısı, Türk Tarih Kurumu Malazgirt Anma Yıllığı, Antika Dergisi-Çini Özel Sayısı and the Türkler encyclopedia. Apart from in Anatolia, she has done research in Iran, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Pakistan, India and Cyprus.  She has participated in many international congresses and seminars.  She has presented papers and done research at museums in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the United States, Greece, Italy, Portugal, the Commonwhealth of Independent States, China, Denmark, Holland, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Kuwait. Apart from Turkish works, she has prepared English, Japanese, German and French books.  She is a member of many scientific foundations in Turkey and abroad.  She received the Merit Award from the German Government, the 2001 Service Award given by the İzmir Culture, Art and Education Foundation and the Honorable Membership Award of the Atatürk Culture Centre.
