Minstrel (b. ? - d. After 1737). There
is not enough information about his life and the clues in his poems are not
enough too. It is known that he served as clerk in the council of Mehmet Bahri
Paşa (d. 1700), he wrote one of his poems because of coming of Crimean Khan
Selim Giray I to İstanbul and lived mostly in Rumelia, Damascus and Arabia.
It is understood from his poems that
Gevheri lived a poor and itinerant life. However he was successful with his
poems which he told in minstrel style, he also wrote divan* poems in metrics
which were read with a great appreciation and widely. His poems were first
collected by Sadettin Nüzhet Ergun: S.
Nüzhet Ergun / Gevheri (S. Nüzhet Ergun / Gevheri, 1928).
