Süleyman Tevfik Özzorluoğlu

Journalist and writer (b. 1861, İstanbul – d. 1939, İstanbul). His surname was Özzorluoğlu and he was the son of Zorluzade Hacı (Aziz) Hüsnü Bey who was a clerk to the chamberlain. The poet and writer, Halide Nusret Zorlutuna and the poet and writer, İsmet Kür are his niece and nephew. He received his education by private tutoring. He learnt Arabic, French, Persian and Italian. He began to work as a teacher of French in Antep in 1881. Later on he served in various state posts in Halep and Thessalonica. He served in the Ottoman-Greek War in 1897 as a reporter for the newspaper Sabah. In 1906, he was appointed as a member of Grand Council of Education. He continued as a journalist after the Republic and he worked as an administrator in various newspapers and reviews. As a proficient writer of his time, he prepared more than a hundred and fifty works of compilation and translation on religion, literature, folklore, history, food and language. He wrote on several issues. He was one of the first publishers to publish folk stories in the new Turkish alphabet.
