Islamic scholar (b. 1884,
Erzurum – d. 1971, İstanbul). He received private education both in his
hometown and in İstanbul. He completed his education in Kuzat Madrasah Muslim
School and gave courses at Fatih Mosque, the Caliphate’s Madrasah and at the
Madrasah of Preachers. He served as the Mufti of İstanbul (1934), as an
instructor of Kelam (study of the
words of the Scriptures) at the School for Orphans and at the İstanbul Advanced
Islam Institution and became the Head of Religious Affairs (1960). He wrote
many works in the field of Islamic Sciences. He is famous for his works Büyük İslâm İlmihali (The Big Islamic
Catechism) and Hukukı İslâmiye ve
Istılahat-ı Fıkhiyye Kamusu (The
Law of Islam and the Dictionary of Superior Canon Law).
