Writer (b.
1890, Damascus – d. 4 November 1968). He published the newspaper Alemdar in 1909, the year he graduated
from Galatasaray High School. He lived in exile in Sinop, Çorum and Konya
because of his opposition to the Union and Progress Party (1914-18) after the
murder of Mahmut Şevket Paşa. He wrote articles in support of the Friends of
England Society and the ally of the English, the Liberty and Entente Party,
along with articles against the National Struggle in the newspaper Alemdar that he republished after the
Armistice. After the announcement of the Republic, he was on the “150 list” and
exiled (1924). He came back to Turkey due to an amnesty after fifteen years of
exile and wrote for the newspapers Yeni
Sabah and Milliyet (after 1953)
in İstanbul. He was among the writers who were against the purification of the
language. On his last wishes, he was buried in Üçler Cemetery opposite
Mevlana’s Tomb.
