Poet (d. 5 January 1921, Havran / Balıkesir – d. 17 January 2004, Ankara). Pulurlu
Troubadour Aşık Süleyman was his uncle. He attended primary school in Havran.
He graduated from Balıkesir
High School (1940). He
settled in Ankara
when was appointed as a ministry official in 1944. He was Chairman of the
Language and Literature Branch of the Ankara Peoples’ House until it was closed
in 1947. In
1955, he retired from his job as an official and began to work as a journalist
and reporter on the newspaper Ulus.
He served as chief of the news, reporter, writer and editor at the newspapers Ulus, Zafer, Hakikat, Medeniyet, Halkçı
Ankara, Telgraf, Devrim and Adalet.
He retired while working for Adalet
in 1984. He had a permanent press card, and was a member of Musical Work Owners
Society of Turkey and the Professional Association of Scientific and Literary
Work Owners of Turkey. His grave is in Edremit Havran.
His first poems
were published in the Balıkesir
High School review, Alkım in 1937 and in the review 7 Gün in 1940. He published the monthly
art review Çaba (36 volumes) in Ankara between 1966 and
1969. His poems appeared in several reviews such as Yedigün, Bahçe, Türk Dili and Türk Edebiyatı, and were translated
into English, French and Farsi. 218 of his poems were set to music in the style
of Turkish Classical Music. He won awards from many foundations with his books.
His name was given to a street in Havran, his hometown.
