Storywriter and novelist (b. 1898, İstanbul - d. 12 November 1943, Ankara). He also used the surnames Etem and Ethem. He attended the Üsküdar High School and graduated from İstanbul university, Faculty of Literature, Department of Philsophy (1920). He took up journalism in the newspapers Hakimiyet-i Milliye and Yeni Gün during the years of National Struggle (1919-1920 head of the editorial department). He became the editorial writer in the newspaper Son Telgraf after the declaration of the Republic (1924-25) however, the newspaper was closed down for opposing the regime and he was tried at the Independence Court. After being acquitted, he worked as a teacher at various schools (1924-1931) and in Ankara after 1932. He gave lectures on history of philosophy and sociology at Gazi Institute of Education. He died of heart disease.

He wrote daily anecdotes for the newspaper Vakit, Where he also led a strong group of storywriters (1930-1931). When he was the general director of Press and Publications, he was elected as a deputy of Kütahya (1939). He was still a deputy when he died. His stories and articles also appeared in the newspapers and reviews Genç Yolcular (1917), Güneş, Resimli Ay, Servet-i Fünun, Yedigün, Varlık, Resimli Gazete and Son Dakika. He gained fame with his novel titled Çıkrıklar Durunca (When the Spinning Wheels Stopped, 1931).

RESEARCH: Hibe (Aid, 1934), Modern Avrupa İktisat Tarihi (Economical History of Modern Europe, 1934), Politika Felsefesi (Philosophy of Politics, 1935), Türk İnkılabının Karakteri (Character of Turkish Revolution, 1939), Avrupa'nın İskeleti (The Skeleton of Europe, 1940), Propaganda I, II (Propaganda I, II, 1941-42).

TRAVEL LITERATURE: Bir Vagon Penceresinden (Through the Window of a Wagon, 1934), Ankara-Bükreş (Ankara-Bucharest, 1937).

ESSAY: Fikir ve Sanat (Idea and Arts, 1930).
