Storywriter (b. 1951,
Gaziantep). He attended Galatasaray High School and graduated from the Sorbonne
University, Department of Modern Literature. After receiving his doctorate he
worked at the French Scientific International Research Center in Paris. His
articles on literature and intellectual subjects were published in magazines
such as Yeni Dergi, Yeni Edebiyat,
Milliyet Sanat and Hürriyet Gösteri.
His stories dealing with the
sexual impulses of the individual rather than a person’s inner self were
sometimes considered obscene. His book
Kadınlar Kitabı (Women’s Book) was banned because it was deemed to be
obscene. However, it was released again in 1984. He was given the 1976 Turkish
Language Association Short Story Award for his work Uzun Sürmüş Bir Yaz (A Long Lasting Summer) and the 1986 French PEN
Club Jury Special Award for his book Sevgilim
İstanbul (My Darling İstanbul), which was also translated into French. He shared the 1987 Haldun Taner Short Story
Award with Tomris Uyar and Murathan Mungan for a story in his book Sevgilim İstanbul (My Darling
İstanbul).
