Linguist (b. 1925, Ahıska / Georgia – d. 7 January 1995, İstanbul). He graduated from Balıkesir High School (1943) and Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1947). He became an assistant (1951) of Turkish Language Department after having worked at various high schools as a teacher of literature. He was became an associate professor (1963) and a professor (1971) and was promoted to chairmanship of this department.

He became known for his researches on Old Turkish Language. He was one of the managers of İstanbul Intellectuals Guild. He was a supporter Turk- Islam and West synthesis.
