Poet and writer (b. 23 April 1936,
Sivas). He completed his primary and secondary education in Sivas, Gaziantep
and Malatya. After he graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Law (1960),
he worked for the newspaper Yeni İstanbul
for some time. When he was working as a reporter at the
Central Program Department at Ankara Radio, he prepared and presented various
culture programs (1964-68). He
worked as a lawyer in Sivas (1969-75). He was nominated as mayor and
parliamentary deputy candidate for the Justice Party while he was serving as
city governor. After he worked as a law consultant at the Prime Ministry Soil
and Agriculture Reformation Council (1975-76), he worked at Ankara Television
(1976-79) and then he became an assistant consultant at the Ministry of Culture
(1979-80). He was appointed as a consultant after the 12 September coup and
continued in this post at the ministry until 1992. He worked as a consultant to
the Office of the Prime Ministry and then he officially retired. He continued to work in İstanbul.
After his first poem, published in the
review Türk Sanatı when he graduated from high school (1953), his poems
were published in local newspapers, in the review Kopuz, which he
published with his friends during his university years, and in the reviews Orkun and Türk Edebiyatı (1980) both of which he was the editor-in-chief for.
He worked as a columnist on the newspaper Türkiye.
He prepared and presented a
program called Sözün Doğrusu (Correct Word) related to the correct usage of Turkish on Samanyolu Television.
He has been given many awards by various foundations for this program and
also for his television programs in which he dealt with the new Turkish
Republic. He is among the most famous poets that have featured the reviews Orkun, Hisar and Türk Edebiyatı.
