Statesman (b. 18 February 1928, Bitlis – d. 23 November
2015). He is a graduate of Ankara University, Faculty of Law (1951) and Geneva
University, Faculty of Political Science (1953). His PhD thesis was İnsanlığa
Karşı İşlenmiş Cürümler (Crimes Committed Against Humanity, not published).
He had on various duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he began to
work in 1955. He was elected as the Senator of Bitlis between 1973-1979 for the
Justice Party, and parliamentary deputy for Bitlis in 1984 for the Nationalist
Democracy Party. He became the President of the Republic Senate Foreign Affairs
Commission, President of the Turkish-European Economic Council Commission and
the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (1977-1983).
He switched to the Motherland Party in 1987 and became
the Minister of State in 1991 by being elected to parliament within this party
in 1987. He was elected the Bitlis deputy in 1991 and 1995, and the Muş deputy
in 1999 for the same party. He has received the European Golden Medal and the
Turkish-European Economic Council Partnership Silver Medal. A lot of his
articles regarding foreign policy, defense and education have been published in
many magazines and newspapers.
