National taekwondo athlete. She was born on February 9th, 1986 in Bismil district of Diyarbakır.  She is the sister of Bahri Tanrıkulu, who is a national taekwondo athlete. She studied at the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Antalya Akdeniz University. Azize Tanrıkulu , who learnt also gymnastics in Ankara, became interested in taekwondo sport by her brother’s suggestion. She worked as a licensed athletes connected to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club.

In her athletics career, which she represented Turkey in the category of Taekwondo in international tournaments; first she achieved to be the second place in Belgium Tournament in 2002. Then, sheachieved first place in Balkan Championship in 2003, third place in Netherlands Tournament in 2004, first place in 23rdUniversity Summer Olympics in 2005, first place in International İsmet Iraz Tournament in 2005, first place in European Championships in 2005, first place in Europe Team Championships in 2006, second place in World Team Championships in 2006 and third place in International Germany Tournament in 2007. The athlete, who is a silver medalist in the Olympics and European championships, has obtained the greatest success of her career at women’s 57 kg taekwondo final in 2008 Beijing Olympics. In this competition, she managed to have the silver medal by holding second place.

Azize Tanrıkulu took second in 2008 Olympic Games European Continent Elections Competition. Tanrıkulu, who married with another taekwondo player, European champion Abdullah Sertçelik, on July 11, 2010, continued her studies at Antalya Çağlayan High School as a sports teacher.
