Makbule Atadan

Atatürk Yakını

Ölüm
18 Ocak, 1956

Sister of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (B. 1885, Thessaloniki,- D.  January 18, 1956, Ankara).  After the Balcan Wars (1912-1913) she left Thessaloniki with her mother Zübeyde Hanim, settled in to the house which her brother prepared for them in Akaret, Istanbul.  She was a middle height, plain-spoken lady and she didn’t like people to tell her what to do.  When Mustafa Kemal left Istanbul to start the National Struggle, she and her mother kept on living in the house in Akaretler.

After the establishment of Republic (1923) Mustafa Kemal took his mother and sister next  to him in Ankara.  Makbule Hanım stayed with her brother for a while, later “Çamlı Köşk” was built for her in Çankaya Palace’s west side and she moved there and lived here. However, after Atatürk’s death she was forgotten and was forced to take a back step. Government expropriated Camlı Köşk and began to use it as a part of Çankaya Palace’s quest house for foreign visitors.

In 1930, with Atatürk’s will, Makbule Atadan attended to Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası which Fethi okyar was established; after this party’s close in a few months, Makbule Hanım’s political life ended.  Makbule Atadan got married with Congressman Mecdi Boydan in 1935, she died when she was 69.

Atadan published her memories about her brother Mustafa Kemal with  “Büyük Kardeşim Atatürk” (1952) and “Ağabeyim Mustafa Kemal” (1952) titles.
