Journalist-writer,
television actress. She was born in Istanbul on March 11, 1971. Her surname was
Şener before she got married with television programmer Murat Birsel. After she
graduated from Beyoğlu Anatolian High School, she continued to Boğaziçi
University Economy Department. During the second grade, she was interested in
journalism and began to work as a reporter in Aktüel magazine.
After she graduated from university, she went to America in 1994. She
studied her master on cinema in Columbia University in New York. In 1996, Gülse
Birsel returned to country, prepared foreign news of morning bulletin in ATV
for three months. Later she worked as the editor of Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar magazines for a year, published Bazaar Gelin and Orange magazines. Also she was the editorial coordinator of FHM,
House Beautiful and Gezi magazines.
She wrote the scripts and hosted the TV show G.a.g. in ATV d 2002. She was
appointed as columnist in Sabah newspaper. Not only she was the script writer
of Avrupa Yakası TV show which was on ATV screens since February 2004,
but also she was among the actress list of this show. The movie ‘Hırsız Var!’
that was on theatres in 2005, was Gülse Birsel’s first movie project in her
portfolio. She compiled her newspaper articles in as a book.
