Playwright (b. 1930, Tekirdağ - d. 8 Temmuz 2012, Istanbul). His full name is
Güngör Dilmen Kalyoncu, but he used a pseudonym as Güngör Kalyoncu in his first
works. He respectively graduated from Biga Primary School, Istanbul
İngiliz Erkek High School, Çapa High School and Istanbul University,
Faculty of Literature, Department of Classical Philology (1960). Then, he
worked at temporary jobs in Erzurum, Ankara and Istanbul and
sometimes worked as translator. After he completed his education, firstly he went
to Tel-Aviv and then to Athens to research on theater. He studied at the theater
department at Yale and Washington Universities (1961-64) in USA with a
scholarship he won. As he returned to Turkey; he started to work as the playwright
and director at Istanbul City Theaters. Between the years of 1967-68; he worked
as the text’s chief at the theatre department of Istanbul Radio. Following this
position; he returned to City Theaters. In 1971, he gave lectures on Turkish

He tried to
scrutinize the dilemma inside the human creature with concrete, international
and contemporary dimensions. His plays are the mixture of the resources of
drama, legends, and historical events with the local motives. In his solo play
named “Ben Anadolu”, he
discussed the social and historical positioning of women from
Kybele till today in Anatolian cultures. In his work named Deli Dumrul, which was based upon the Dede Qorqut stories, he focused
on the inner weaknesses and contradictions of the human. His play Canlı Maymun Lokantası focuses
on the maturity-immaturity conflict and the conflict of material world and of
emotional world through the stories of an American oil king and a Chinese poet
who sells his brain.
